Five Health Benefits of Going Plant Based

Five Major Health Benefits of a Plant Based Diet

July 15, 20264 min read

There are a lot of people who have switched over their diets, and many people who are contemplating it, but why should you actually consider going plant based or even full on vegan? The truth is, there are a lot of health benefits associated to this way of eating.

The reality about meat is that it contains large amounts of cholesterol and saturated fat. And both of these are high contributors to damaging your health. And processed meats such as bacon, sausage and deli meats are loaded with sodium and other additives.

Decreasing or eliminating your meat consumption altogether has tremendous effects on your overall health.

In this blog I’ll be going to over over 5 Major Health Benefits of a Plant Based Diet

Do you have my Plant Based Total Wellness Guide yet? It goes through all of the plant-based foods you should be eating to be your healthiest and fittest.

Number One is WEIGHT LOSS.

Carrying a few extra pounds is normal. We all go through stages and phases. But having an excess amount of extra weight can lead to some serious health issues. Being on a plant based/vegan diet helps tremendously with managing that.

Plant based foods are calorically less dense, lower in fat, have a high fiber content, help aid in digestion and can improve your metabolism. And as long as you’re eating whole foods (limiting that processed crap we all love so much), you’ll be eliminating your consumption of excess sugar, unhealthy fats and empty calories.

Be mindful of excess fats and carbs (i.e. avocados, nuts, beans, rice, etc.)

These can cause you to put on weight if you overdo it.

The Second Health Benefit is Decreasing your risk of Cancer

When it comes to whole foods (fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds and grains), they’re loaded with cancer fighting phytonutrients such as:

  • Vitamin C

  • Vitamin E

  • Antioxidants

  • Selenium

  • Folate

The research consistently comes back the same. Eating more plant foods lowers your risk of cancer based on its high vitamin and mineral content while eating red and processed meats increases it.

Third is Lower Inflammation

I feel like we were talking about this word a lot at some point and then it just fell off track for some reason.

When our body is constantly inflamed, it can lead to many complications including:

  • Tissue damage

  • Chronic disease

  • Impaired immune function

  • Joint pain

  • Accelerated aging

  • Autoimmune disorders

Whole foods help decrease inflammation in several different ways.

  • Phytochemicals are anti-inflammatory compounds

  • High fiber content promotes a healthy gut microbiome which in turn reduces inflammation.

  • Antioxidants help reduce free radicals

  • Help maintain stable blood sugar levels

  • Alkaline forming which helps maintain your body’s PH balance

Fourth on the list is Better Digestive & Gut Health

One of the key proponents to our health is our gut microbiome, which is responsible for many things in our bodies including:

  • Digestion

  • Nutrient production

  • Immune system

  • Brain function

In order for it to function optimally, it has to have a diversity of bacteria. What we eat is a direct correlation of how healthy our gut microbiome is.

And wouldn't you know it, WHOLE FOODS are the most beneficial to our gut bacteria. Their high fiber and phytochemical content directly promote a healthy gut.

And lastly, the Fifth benefit would be a Healthier Heart

Heart Disease is no joke, and there are many different factors that can contribute to it. High Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol being the biggest ones, with the main culprit of those being saturated fat.

Saturated fats are Pro-Inflammatory and increase your bad cholesterol levels. They’re mostly found in:

  • Red meat

  • Dairy

  • Fried foods

  • Baked goods

Eating plant based replaces those bad fat sources with healthy ones such as:

  • Avocados

  • Nuts

  • Seeds

  • Olive oil & Coconut oil

Which in turn reduces and lowers your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Adopting a plant-based or vegan diet is more than just a lifestyle choice; it's a commitment to your health and well-being. By focusing on whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and grains, you're embracing a way of eating that reduces your risk of serious health issues like cancer and heart disease.

With the growing body of research supporting these advantages, making the shift to a plant-based diet is a smart decision for anyone looking to improve their health, enhance their vitality, and potentially extend their lifespan.

Take a step towards a healthier, more vibrant you. Your body will thank you!
